Historical operations on this 40+ acre former industrial/manufacturing site included AT&T/Western Electric facilities which operated metal finishing and plating, painting and film production; several trucking/distribution facilities, a bulk oil storage facility; and a chemical bleaching plant. EPIs environmental and risk assessments for the client, financial institutions, prospective owners and tenants ensured that the proposed, 3-Phase multi-million dollar commercial investment and redevelopment of this Brownfield site, which included Sam's Club, Target, Office Max, Home Depot, and McDonalds, could be completed for this previously impaired industrial site.

Working in conjunction with the City of Chicago's contractor, EPI was strategic in prioritizing areas of concern and completed the cleanup at this 750,000 square foot former printing facility. The cleanup activities included the decommissioning of a 50,000-gallon fuel oil bunkered tank, testing and removal of numerous unidentified 55-gallon drums, removal of thousands of pounds of pigment, asbestos removal and the removal of 500,000-gallons of contaminated water from the basement. EPIs approach accomplished the remediation scope of work, cost estimates and cleanup of the site in a timely manner in order to meet the City's scheduled demolition of this abandoned facility.

The remedial activities included the removal of 20,000 cubic yards of contaminated soil and 237,000-gallons of water. EPI also negotiate the first Highway Authority Agreement approved by the City of Chicago under the TACO guidelines and obtained an approved budget of $1,500,000 from the IEPA. A former US Dismantlement (demolition contractor) site located on the City's northwest side, included the use of several large underground storage tanks, and as it was abandoned for sometime, was a collection site for "fly dumping." EPI was retained to perform Phase II, tank removal, and soil removal activities prior to the proposed residential redevelopment of this previously abandoned site. EPI secured reimbursement funds for the client from the IEPA and the site is currently being developed with numerous residential town home structures.
