Corporate Overview

Environmental Protection Industries (EPI) is a full service environmental consulting and remediation firm.  EPI provides environmental services to a full spectrum of clients in Illinois, Wisconsin, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, and Iowa.  We supply consulting services for a select group of clients on a national scale. EPI specializes in Environmental Site Assessment/Site Characterization and Risk Assessment for managing environmental liabilities and risk exposure, establishing risk-based remediation objectives, and use in the design and implementation of site remediation.  EPI’s services are geared toward cost effective, comprehensive solutions for public and private sector clients to reduce or eliminate environmental liabilities.  EPI manages hundreds of projects annually.

EPI was established in 1988.  At its inception EPI worked primarily in establishing underground tank tightness and related testing services.  At the onset it was determined that a broader scope of services was required.  EPI was quick to respond.  It made the business and management decisions and changes necessary to expand into a full service consulting and remediation company, thereby, securing a place in the environmental consulting field for the future.  EPI has implemented stringent performance standards in order to be more competitive and provide a high quality product.  We are a licensed professional engineering and design firm and are currently in the process of becoming ISO 9000 certified as part of our commitment to providing quality services.  Our Quality Management System is in place

EPI, on behalf of one of our clients, received the first Tiered Approach to Corrective Action Objectives (TACO) Right-Of-Way Agreement with the City of Chicago as part of a “No Further Remediation” determination for a Leaking Underground Storage Tank Site for a redevelopment project in the City.  This was accomplished through the use of the Illinois TACO regulations and included site characterization and risk assessment, site remediation, the use of engineered barriers, an institutional control, groundwater use restriction, and a “highway authority agreement” to allow impacted groundwater and soil to remain in place, where remediation was determined to be impractical.

Our efforts facilitated the initiation of a proposed multi-million dollar commercial redevelopment project within months of the identification of extensive soil and groundwater contamination at the site, which nearly resulted in the cancellation of the development project and almost rendered the property useless.  Previous consultants working at the site had reported that the tanks and contamination at the site had been addressed.  EPI worked directly with the Chicago Department of the Environment, the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency, and City of Chicago Brownfields Task Force to prepare the agreement during the time when Risk-Based Corrective Action was being drafted into regulation in the State of Illinois.  The “Right-of-Way Agreement” presented by the City of Chicago was the first TACO agreement to be prepared, and, as such, it
set the groundwork for all future agreements for similar remediation/redevelopment and Brownfields projects in the City of Chicago.  EPI’s knowledge and experience facilitated the Fast Track closure and redevelopment of this impacted site in less than three months of completion of the site remediation and submittal of the Corrective Action Completion Report to the State.

EPI guarantees that our work is performed ethically, competently and consistent with the highest standards of good engineering practices and procedures in the environmental consulting industry.  Our record of successful performance for our clients has resulted in a solid client base, which has been the foundation for continued growth through the 1990’s.  Our clients regard our knowledge and experience as valuable assets.
